Structure of Openings

In class we looked at different types of thriller openings. We looked at what affect it may have on the audience and how the first few minutes of the film should make the audience feel like they want to know more. We learnt that there are Four types of opening sequences:

A narrative opening with the titles running throughout e.g Stepfather, He Loves Me He Loves Me Not, The Shining.

A discrete title sequence. e.g Seven

Titles over a blank screen, followed by the narrative opening.: This is when the titles/ words flow off the screen into accompanied with music and possibly images.e.g Donnie Darko;

Stylized editing: fast pace editing e.g The Taking Of Pelham.
