Structure Of Thriller Openings

In class we looked at different structures thriller films use. I learnt that there are basically 3 main structures:

A narrative opening with the titles running through out. This structure, brings us straight in to the film, introducing us to the location and characters while the titles are shown over the top. For example, The Shining:


A discrete title sequence, this is where the titles are separate from the narrative. For example se7en:


The 3rd type is simply titles over a black screen, followed with narrative. For example Donnie Darko:


There is also another strucure that could be called 'stylised editing' this is were many editing effects have been used, e.g. zooming, to really capture the audiences attention. For example The Taking of Pelham 123:
